Josh Lewis
Co-Founder

Josh grew up in Deansboro, NY, and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree. He has obtained multiple fitness certifications through the OPT Coaching Certification Program (OPT-CCP), is a former Crossfit Games Competitor, multi-sport athlete and current student under Ido Portal. He is the founder of Garage Gym LLC, a holistic private coaching facility with two locations, one in Oneida, NY and the headquarters in Deansboro, NY, that employs seven coaches that work with one-hundred and fifty plus clients per week.

Josh has spent time working within the Alternative Education industry as a Physical Education teacher’s assistant, Boys and Girls Club Physical Education coordinator, After School Program coach, and has implemented his unique fitness training methods at Hamilton College in Clinton, NY. Josh’s main motivator behind the creation of Fit Kids Fit Future™ is to create a health and fitness learning platform for all students that will provide the knowledge and resources to live a healthy and strong life.


Tammy Alcott
Co-Founder

Tammy grew up in Waterville, NY and holds a Master’s degree in Health Education and a degree in Physical Education. Tammy is certified K-12 in both areas and has been teaching for 28 years. She has taught and coached grades kindergarten through twelve in both health and physical education in three New York schools. She has served as Chairperson of the Health and Wellness committee; and was named “Coach of the Year” in 2007 for the Center State Region.

In addition, Tammy is currently assistant women’s soccer coach at Hamilton College, and a fitness coach at Garage Gym in Central New York. Tammy attributes her desire to revolutionize physical and health education to the lessons she has learned through experience. Having piloted this program at Waterville Middle School, she and her colleagues have witnessed first hand students’ renewed enthusiasm and excitement: “Kids and teachers absolutely love it”.

Sarah Cotter – Curriculum Editor

Sarah grew up in New Hartford, NY and attended Wellesley College and the University of Michigan. She holds Master’s degrees in Education from the University of Michigan and social work from Syracuse University. For 20 years, she taught middle school through AP-level English and Spanish. Most recently, she teaches Methods to pre-certification teachers at Utica College and works for Pearson Education correcting teacher certification exams. She also writes curriculum and exams for the regional educational consortium. Sarah has a strong interest in the integration of Common Core principles into educational practice, and believes passionately in the power of teachers to shape the future.


Emily Alcott – Curriculum Editor

Emily grew up in Waterville, NY and attended William Smith College and Yale University. She holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Science from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. Emily works as a Fluvial geomorphologist/ecologist restoring streams and rivers across the country. She has coached youth soccer and basketball part time for over ten years and has competed at the national and international levels as an age-group triathlete. Founded in her experience working with young people and her passion for fitness, Emily wanted to be part of Fit Kids Fit Future to instill the foundation of healthy, age-appropriate functional movements at a young age.


Jessica Lewis – Curriculum Editor

Jessica Lewis grew up in Deansboro, NY and attended Le Moyne College in Syracuse, where she attained a Bachelor Degree in Spanish with concentrations in Adolescent Education (grades 7-12) and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (K-12).  She received her Master’s Degree in the Teaching of Language from the University of Southern Mississippi. Jessica is currently an ESL teacher at a nationally-ranked school district in Central New York.  She is also a personal trainer at Garage Gym and has worked with a variety of clients of different ages and abilities.  Jessica sees the importance of fitness in her daily interactions with students.  For that reason, she wanted to be a part of the Fit Kids Fit Future project to make a positive change in the health of children.


Michael Shue – IT / Format Design

Michael grew up in Port Leyden, NY, where he graduated from the Information Technology Management program at Howard G. Sackett Technical Center while attending South Lewis Central School.  He went on to obtain his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems from SUNY Institute of Technology in Utica, NY. He also holds an assortment of industry certifications such as CompTia A+, Microsoft Certified Professional and ETA’s Customer Service Specialist Certificate.
